چکیده

The benefits of receiver antenna diversity in a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) handset were studied. Two different channel models were used, one an extension to the 3GPP multipath fading channels and the other based on 3-D scattering and angular weighting via a practically realisable antenna configuration. Simulated performance benefits arising from the use of a second receive antenna with coded UMTS data are compared with the benefits for uncoded data. Plots of coded block-error-rate (BLER) against uncoded physical bit-error-rate (BER) for cases with and without receive antenna diversity show improvements in block error rate up to 1 dB better than predicted by the change in physical bit-error-rate.

A Multiband Multiple-input Multiple-output Antenna System for Long Term Evolution and Wireless Local Area Networks Handsets

A novel multiband multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna system is proposed. The MIMO antenna system consists of two antenna elements, each of which comprises of three radiators: a driven monopole, an S-shaped strip and an inverted F-shaped strip and occupies footprint of 15x18.5x0.8 mm3 only. The driven monopole acts as a quarter-wave monopole and stimulate higher mode resonance. The tw...

A planar, printed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna for slim mobile handset is presented. The dual-antenna system, comprises two symmetric antenna elements, is printed on a printed circuit board (PCB) of mobile phone. Each antenna element consists of coupled-fed loop antenna. The loop antenna is formed by a quarter wavelength (at 762MHz) meandered loop strip with end terminal short-...

Cluding Lte Band Mimo Service

A compact multiband handset antenna including MIMO antenna operation for LTE 13 band (746 ∼ 787MHz) applications is proposed. The proposed antennas are separately located on the top and bottom portions of a mobile handset in order to use the antenna area more effectively. The proposed antenna achieves isolations of higher than 14 dB, enveloped correlation coefficients (ECC) of less than 0.25, a...

Implementation of Compressed Mode in UMTS for 3G Smartphones

Due to increase of data browsing and downloading using 3G enabled mobile handset, it is often required handover mechanism from Universal Mobile Tele-communication System (UMTS) to UMTS, Long Term Evolution (LTE) or Global system for Mobile Communications (GSM) while the handset is continuously transmitting and receiving data from the connected Node-B in a high speed motion. In UMTS, the handhel...

Design of Multiband Balanced Folded Dipole Antenna Based on a Dual-arm Structure for Mobile Handsets

In this paper, a balanced antenna for mobile handset applications with enhanced bandwidth performance, that covers four bands (GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS and 2.4-GHz WLAN), is investigated. The antenna is a slot planar dipole with folded structure and a dual-arm on each monopole. A wide bandwidth planar balun is employed to feed the wideband balanced antenna from an unbalanced source. A prototype o...
